Three Rivers' Jared Woodward signs with Champion Christian College

For Three Rivers' Jared Woodward, it almost feels like he's been injured for two years.

As a freshman, the right-handed pitcher appeared in three games and pitched four innings before his season was over due to an injury, his first major injury at that.

He got another three appearences and two innings on the mound this spring before the COVID-19 pandemic ended Three Rivers' season after 22 games. Woodward said he felt like he was making progress to get back to where he was before the season was canceled.

"I feel 10 times better," Woodward said. "The medical staff in St. Louis, they really took their time and helped me with a lot of stuff."

Despite the lack of time on the mound, he signed with Champion Christian College in Hot Springs, Ark., this summer.

"I just felt like it would be good for me. They really broke down the exposure point of it," Woodward said. "I felt like I'd have the best exposure there."

Since March, he added that he's been working out at a local gym as well as throwing and running.

"Just doing anything I can to get back to where I was," Woodward said. "Hopefully, it will get back to where I was physically and mentally."

The Raiders were 2-1 in games where Woodward pitched this season. In his second outing of the seaason, he allowed one hit and no walks over the course of a scoreless inning as Three Rivers beat Williams Baptist JV 7-2.
