Raiders improve shooting in final jamboree

It was a busy weekend for the Raiders. Three Rivers played in five games in two days as part of its home jamboree Saturday and the Midwest Jamboree in Carbondale, Illinois, Sunday. On the scoreboard, the Raiders had their best performances of the preseason. In its home jamboree against Tennessee Prep, the Raiders showed improved shooting, going 17-of-23 and shooting 47 percent from the field. Turnovers and defense, though, still need some shoring up. The Raiders committed 18 turnovers but forced 14. Tennessee Prep shot a red-hot 60 percent from the floor. Redshirt freshman Miganeh Jama posted 20 points on 8-of-12 shooting from the floor with four 3-pointers. Against Evangel, Three Rivers won both halves, the first 49-32 and the second 36-33. Jama shot 5-of-6 from deep for another solid outing, finishing with 22 points and six rebounds. The Raiders kept the turnover numbers down in their second game, committing just 10 versus 15 assists. Defense was better against Evangel, holding the visitors of 42 percent from the floor and winning the rebounding battle 31 to 30. The Midwest Jamboree was up and down for the Raiders Saturday. In the first game versus Vincennes, the Raiders were out-rebounded 23 to 15 and lost both halves. Free throw shooting was a big problem. Three Rivers made just two on 14 shots from the charity stripe. Rebounding was an even bigger issue against Olney. Three Rivers lost the rebounding battle 39 to 19. The Raiders also shot just 25 percent from deep. Sophomore guard Tristan Jarrett led the team with 12 points, but Three Rivers fell 71-49 in the first half and 31-30 in the second. Many of those problems were fixed against Shawnee, allowing the Raiders to end on a high note. Sophomore Willie Lucas led the team with 18 points on six triples, complemented by eight rebounds, and the Raiders won the rebounding battle 25 to 20. Three Rivers took the first half 58-44 and the second 33-25.
