Rodeo team starts off strong

The Rodeo Team has started their fall season wide open competing the last 3 weeks in Hattiesburg MS, Marshall MO, and Livingston AL.  We’ve had different people who have done well at each rodeo and we have started the season with an improvement from last year.

At Hattiesburg, Madison Steele and Kory Ann Watt-McCuiston led in the team roping long round winning second with a 6.5 second run.  In Steer Wrestling, Colby Daniels won 5 points in the long round and 5 points in the short round and ended up 5 in average.  Joe Phillips won a 3 in the second round with a score of 80 in bull riding.  Jake Sellers won 2nd place in the bull riding with an 83-point score.  We’ve had a lot of great effort and overall a pretty good first rodeo.

Then we traveled to Marshall MO for our second rodeo of the year.  Cannon Smith led the team in the Steer Wrestling to win 3 points in the opening round. Colby Daniels placed in the first round and finished 4th in the average in the saddle bronc riding for the weekend.  Eli Fuller collected his first score of the year in the bareback riding and finished just short of the top 5 in the second round.  The girls didn’t get any points on the weekend but had a great rodeo with Baylee Schlinger and Leah Jackson both placing in the top 15 in the barrel racing and just barely missing the short round of competition.  Harley Staggs roped her calf in 4 seconds and won the Friday night performance but barley finished outside the top 10.

Livingston AL started off with deep mud on Thursday, but the team handled it very well.  Madison Steele won 2nd in the long round of the breakaway roping with a 2.7 second run and had a great short round run of 3.2 seconds to win second place in the rodeo for the weekend.  Jake Sellers had a great bull ride to win the second round and move him to 3rd in the region thus far.  Baylee Schillinger and Leah Jackson both handled the mud well in the barrel racing but fell just short of the top 10 again with both placing in the top 15 out of 100 girls.  We’ve started the year off with a great effort and everyone is looking good.  They haven’t even started to reach their full potential yet.  Once everyone settles in and gets more comfortable with the college style of rodeo, they will do very well.  This team is hungry and is working very hard to be as successful and as talented as they are put together and with their work ethic it’s just a matter of time before they start winning consistently at the rodeos.

Our next rodeo will be our home rodeo October 11,12, and 13 located at the Sikeston Jaycee Rodeo grounds in Sikeston MO.  The performances start at 7:30 pm each night and slack will be at 9 a.m. on October the 12th.  We are really looking forward to having a home rodeo this year and hope to do really well in front of our home crowd.
