The Rodeo team recently competed at Missouri Valley College on September 21st-23rd. Madison Steele pick up a few points in the tr that weekend winning 5 in the avg. and although everyone else didn't get much accomplished, the team is improving every time out. Then again at the University of West Alabama rodeo September 28th-30th, although we didn't have the best rodeo, Madison Steele barely missed the short round in the team roping with her new partner and team member Meleah Lester.
The Murray State rodeo in Murray, Kentucky kicked off this past Thursday and we finally got things rolling. Madison Steele made the short round in the breakaway roping in the 9 spot but roped her calf in the short go in 3.1 seconds witch was good for 3rd place in the short round and 5th in the average. Remarked Coach Chad Phipps, "It was a very tough roping event this weekend and Madison mixed it up well with those girls, but once she gets the confidence in her faster shots she will be winning a lot!!!" Madison and Meleah Lester roped their steer in the team roping in long go round of competition with an 8.8 which would have usually won 5 or 6 compared to the past rodeos but this weekend it ended within 12. Just 2 spots out of the short go. The girls are settling in and getting things figured out now, so we are starting to get a lot more consistent at the next rodeos.
Joe Phillips won the 1st round of the bull riding, but he was bucked off of his Short go bull. He still ended up winning the average and championship at the Murray State Racer rodeo this weekend for his first win of the season and put him into the top 5 of the regional standings. Christian Cox spurred his bull to a 2nd go round victory with an 86 point ride, which was the highest score of the weekend. His 2nd round win puts him in the top 7. (His second round ride video is below). "With practice bulls now settled in at the college farm, Coach Phipps said, I feel the bull riders will and are back to top form and are just getting started. Everyone on the team had solid efforts this weekend and we look forward to going to Southern Alabama University the first weekend in November and doing better than we have done yet!!!"
On another note, Jordan Fuchs was not able to compete with us this weekend because her grandfather passed away, a man she was very close with and on behalf of our whole team, we want to give them our condolences and let her know we are all praying for her to help her with getting through the loss of a special person in her life.
