Ranked team hands 1st loss to Lady Raiders

JOPLIN, Mo. — The Lady Raiders lost their fi rst game of the season Friday to a top-10 ranked team. Three Rivers won its first game of the Crowder Bash 3-2 over Johnson County, then lost to No. 6 Northeast Oklahoma A&M, ending Three Rivers' season-opening winning streak at nine games. On Saturday, Three Rivers lost to Kirkwood (Iowa), ranked fifth in Division II, 12-4 and lost to Carl Albert 10-7. The Lady Raiders (9-3) finished their tournament schedule Sunday with games against Murray State and No. 20 Indian Hills. Macy Rogers scattered 10 hits and three walks with two strikeouts in the loss to NEO. Three or more runners reached base in two innings and Rogers gave up three solo home runs, including two in the fifth inning. Three Rivers only put four runners on base off three hits and a walk. Kabrien Rogers, batting ninth, reached base twice and scored. Randi Scruggs and Gracie King also singled. Rogers had a leadoff single in the sixth inning with Three Rivers down 3-0 and reached third after a pair of groundouts. King then lined an RBI single up the middle. Three Rivers struck out 11 times, including five in a row and 8 of 11 batters during one stretch. Kristyn Carpenter and King hit back-to-back home runs in the third inning to score all three runs in Three Rivers' win over Johnson County. After a single by Scruggs, Carpenter hit one out to right for her first homer of the season, and then King sent her first shot over the left-field fence. Three Rivers stranded six runners as Summer Shockley held on for the win. Shockley struck out 10 against five hits, a walk and a hit batter. She had a no-hitter going through three innings with a hit batter blemish mixed in. She gave up a run in the fourth and a solo home run to lead off the seventh. Down a run, Johnson County had runners on first and second with two outs when Shockley got a strikeout to end the game.
