Morey, Bisby returning to Lady Raiders softball team

Three Rivers softball will have two players return for another sophomore season.

Leadoff hitter Jennifer Morey and clean-up hitter Zoe Bisby will take advantage of the NJCAA granting spring athletes an additional year of eligibility. They will be two third-year sophomores on a team of 21 freshmen from two different recruiting classes.

The Lady Raiders were 11-2 before their season was canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic in March.

Morey was batting .444 with a .565 on-base percentage and 13 stolen bases off her 16 singles and 10 walks. She was caught stealing just twice.

Bisby had two home runs, three doubles, two triples, and 11 RBIs out of her 17 hits. She was batting .415 with a .444 on-base percentage and a .732 slugging percentage.

“They are two of our hardest workers, so we’re happy to have them back,” Three Rivers coach Jeff Null said.

Null added that both sophomores had offers to four-year schools.

Sophomores Abbey Gann, Saje Kurpiela, Adrienne Stucker, Lexi Campbell, Mary Yandell and Calli Gerber are not returning, and all six will be attending a four-year school in some capacity.

Gerber (Arkansas State) and Campbell (Arkansas State) were two-time NFCA Academic All-Americans and Campbell graduates with a 4.0 GPA.

Campbell had six hits in nine games this season and scored four runs with five RBIs. Gerber had a .944 slugging percentage with a triple and five doubles off her 10 hits in seven games. She also drove in nine runs.

Yandell (Tabor College) had a .455 batting average and had three doubles and eight RBIs with six runs scored.

Kurpiela (Maryland Eastern Shore) was also an Academic All-American this spring. She had a 3.77 ERA over 13 innings and was 3-0 in four starts.

Gann (Missouri Southern State) was 4-0 in the circle out of seven appearances and had a 3.18 ERA with 10.82 strikeouts per seven innings.

Stucker (Crowley’s Ridge) pitched six innings in relief and had a 4.67 ERA and two strikeouts.

As freshmen, Gann and Kurpiela each had 18 wins out of 23 starts while Stucker was 3-0 over 37 2/3 innings.
