Turnovers trip up Lady Raiders; TRC goes 1-1 in Memphis

MEMPHIS, Tenn. — After more than two weeks off, the Three Rivers women's basketball team was back in action over the weekend and split a pair of games at the Southwest Tennessee Classic. The Raiders lost to Wallace State 90-80 on Saturday and then beat Lewis & Clark 96-57 on Sunday for their final game of 2019. "The effort was there, they were playing hard, we just threw the ball away too much and didn't keep the off the board," Three Rivers coach Jeff Walk said. "In our four losses, we have 100 turnovers.

When we figure that out against good teams, we have a chance to be really good." In their first game away from the Libla Family Sports Complex since November, the Raiders committed 28 turnovers against Wallace State (13-2) while getting 13 steals. Jordan Little led Three Rivers with 19 points and Myia Yelder added 13 to go with a team-high six assists. Deanay Watson had eight rebounds. Three Rivers (12-4) shot 43.1% from the field and 63% on free throws.

Wallace State scored eight points off its short bench that collectively played 39 minutes. Kyra Williams and Imari Martin each scored 24 points to lead the team and Jiselle Woodson added 17. The next day, Three Rivers rolled to the win. The Raiders led 58-26 at halftime and never allowed more than 16 points in any quarter. Three Rivers shot 37.8% overall and finished with six players in double figures against Division II Lewis & Clark (6-6). "We got the rust knocked off and played strong with the basketball," Walk said. "Pretty much dominated the glass."

Hannah Thurmon earned her first double-double of the season with 16 points and 11 rebounds, 10 on the defensive end. The UC-Riverside commit was 7 for 13 shooting and had one steal. Little led the team with 20 points, including 5 for 8 on 3-pointers. Watson got 11 points and eight rebounds and Yelder had 10 points. Off the bench, Katelyn South had 16 points and Chaylea Mosby had 10 to go with five rebounds and five assists. Three Rivers kicks off its Region XVI schedule next with a trip Saturday to Mineral Area. "This week is all about Mineral Area," Walk said. "We've got four pretty tough region games ahead and all of them on the road. "Mineral Area is the team to beat. They didn't lose a game (in the Region XVI Showcase)," Walk said. "Now they are going to have to hold that top spot."
