PBHS's Scott to continue cheer career at Three Rivers

Three Rivers commit Karly Scott taught herself how to tumble when she was seven years old, and her passion for the sport grew as she progressed in cheerleading.

The Poplar Bluff graduate possesses a care of the sport that isn't common, and she's eager to fulfill her calling at the collegiate level.

The result of all of her hard work culminated with her signing to the Raiders cheer team, and Scott wasn't shy about her excitement in advancing to the next level. Despite not initially planning on competing at the collegiate level, she's happy to be staying in Poplar Bluff to continue her career.

Having graduated during the first semester of high school, Scott reflected on her plan after high school--and decided to make cheerleading an integral part of it.

"I had planned on going to Arkansas State but I changed my mind because cheer is something I am passionate about," Scott said with a smile. "I am excited to join a program like Three Rivers and can't wait to begin cheerleading with them."

During the eighth grade, Scott really progressed well when it came to competition cheer, and it showed at the high school level. Her freshman year of high school resulted in a state championship, as the school went back to back in cheerleading.

Things progressed during the high school ranks, where Scott was surrounded by a lot of other talented cheerleaders determined to be at their best at all times. The senior cheerleader enjoyed being pushed by her teammates and learning under the tutelage of PBHS head coach Calli Cutts.

"I have been under Coach Cutts since my sophomore year, and a lot of us seniors really grew close to her," Scott said. "She's always been there for us and when I had struggles with things, she was always willing to be very helpful with everything. She's a great coach."

For Scott, cheerleading brought out the best in her, and letting that go and not pursuing it collegiate would've been very difficult for her. She was apart of the leadership team her junior and senior years, and expressed her gratitude in the life lessons cheer has taught her.

"Cheer has taught me a lot of things, especially when it comes to having discipline and being patient," Scott said. "You can't let things get to you in this sport, and it's hard to succeed when you're in your head. When it came to doing some of the tumbles, I had to learn at first and get past that mental blocks, but I have really enjoyed this sport."
