KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- The Raiders had four players batting Sunday who are listed as pitchers in the program.
Hampered by injuries all season, the worst-case scenario finally hit Three Rivers College as they traveled to MCC-Maple Woods with seven healthy position players.
Three Rivers lost the opener 10-4 and the nightcap 11-2.
"It's a pretty adverse situation," Three Rivers coach Stacey Burkey said. "It was the guys we had available so we tried to make the best with what we had."
Right-handed pitcher Parker Dent was the designated hitter in the opener and played right field in the nightcap.
Ty Gordon (0-5) pitched 3 1/3 innings in the opener, and was the DH in the nightcap.
Toby Miller played left field and pitched in relief, and got his first two at bats of the season in the process.
Lane Crowley (2-3), who started the nightcap on the mound and pitched 2 1/3 before Dent relieved him, also got his first two at-bats of the season.
The Raiders (13-27, 7-21 Region XVI) led the opener early, but gave up seven runs in the fourth inning and Maple Woods (17-26, 12-16) pulled away.
Garyn Stewart was 2 for 4 with two RBIs for the Raiders, who finished with seven hits and three walks as a team.
Dylan Kater, who played third for the first time all year, scored twice and was 1 for 2.
Gordon gave up eight hits, four walks, and eight runs with one strikeout. Miller, in 2 2/3 innings of relief, allowed two hits and no walks with five strikeouts. Both hits were home runs.
In the nightcap, Three Rivers committed three errors and two of the six runs against Crowley were earned.
The Region XVI Sub-Regional round starts May 5, and the Region XVI tournament starts May 11.
