UNION, Mo. — Carleigh Burnett picked up two wins, a save and scored a game-winner for the Raiders softball team Monday. Three Rivers' No. 1 pitcher scored the go-ahead run then got the save for a 7-6 victory in the 10-inning opener at East Central before allowing just six hits in the nightcap which the Lady Raiders won 7-0 for the sweep.
Three Rivers (22-20), which managed just three runs over the weekend, had 26 hits, including five for extra bases in a sweep of the Falcons. In a back-and-forth opener tied at 6-all in the 10th inning, Randi Scruggs delivered a two-out, RBI single through the right side, allowing Carleigh Burnett to score. Burnett, who doubled an at-bat earlier, also pitched a 1-2-3 bottom of the 10th for the save. Scruggs was 3 for 5 with two runs and two RBIs, and got the scoring started with a double in the third to score Wiley Lowry. Morgan Ledure reached on an error one batter later to score Scruggs and give Three Rivers a 2-1 lead. Lowry, who was 3 for 4 with three runs scored and one batted in, added another run after doubling with two outs and scoring on a wild pitch in the fourth.
Courtney Slayton tacked on another run an inning later scoring Scruggs with a single, before East Central answered with three runs a half inning later to take a 5-4 lead. Lowry hit a solo home run in the sixth inning to knot the game briefly. Brittany Link tacked on an insurance run with an RBI single in the seventh before East Central got a trio if singles to force extra innings. Lowry struck out eight and allowed six earned runs on 15 hits while Burnett struck out two in the final two innings to get the win.
Three Rivers brought out the bats cruise past the Falcons in Game 2. The Lady Raiders pounded out 14 hits, including one for extra bases, and held East Central to six hits. Scruggs and Makayla Lamphier each went was 3 for 4. Morgan Ledure drove in a pair of runs with two hits, Lexi Morris had an RBI double and Courtney Slayton had two hits and an RBI. Morris got things started with her two-run double back up the middle to score Scruggs and Ledure as part of a two-run first inning. All three reached on singles to load the bases an inning later for Slayton, who also singled to extend the lead to 4-0. Shaina Merrick and Scruggs continued the hit parade with RBI base hits in the third while Ally Hendricks added one more in the seventh to complete the shoutout. Burnett tossed six shutout innings. She struck out six and walked one to get her third win of the season in the circle. Maci Coleman followed with a scoreless seventh inning, allowing no hits and a walk in relief.
