HILLSBORO, Mo. — The Lady Raiders were shutout for the first time this season, and the second time. Three Rivers College failed to score twice against Jefferson on Thursday and lost 8-0 in the fiveinning opener and 1-0 in the nightcap. Carleigh Burnett (3-7) took the loss in the nightcap after allowing five hits and a walk with one stirkeout over six innings.
The Lady Raiders (9-14, 1-3 Region XVI) had four hits, one fewer than the Lady Vikings. Lexi Morris was 2 for 3 with a double. Wiley Lowry (5-4) gave up three runs in the third and fifth innings of the opener, including a pair of home runs. She allowed 10 hits and five walks in all with one strikeout. Randi Scruggs, Morris, and Ally Hendricks had Three Rivers' three hits. The Lady Raiders also scattered three walks for six total baserunners. Morris has now gotten a hit in six straight games and eight of the past nine. All but one of those games were also multi-hit games. She is 17 for 26 (.654) with 13 runs and 15 RBIs during her hot streak. In the game where she didn't earn a hit, Morris drew three walks, scored a run and stole a base. Her batting average has since climbed to .451 and she has 26 RBIs and 18 runs through 23 games. Taylor Nordwald (7- 1) won the game for Jefferson (18-7, 5-0 Region XVI) in the nightcap after Shelby Clark (4-4) won the opener.
Three Rivers' seven strikeouts against Nordwald were the most they've had since they struck out nine times against John A. Logan on March 3. The losses ended a six game winning streak for the Lady Raiders, who also had seven games postponed during the two week stretch. Three Rivers had gotten double digit hits in every game during the winning streak, before notching seven total against Jefferson. It was the lowest offensive output in a doubleheader for Three Rivers since No. 16 Wabash Valley held the Lady Raiders to four hits on March 4. Even then, the Lady Raiders scored in each game of the doubleheader.
