Hendricks helps power sweep

Ally Hendricks was having trouble with the change up. She's been asking her coaches for extra practice recently to work on staying back. Then Sunday, the Poplar Bluff alumna drilled a pair of home runs, including one off a change-up, as Three Rivers College swept Morthland College 18-3 and 15-0 at Rains Field. Both games lasted five innings. "She's been kind of wearing us out and it paid off the other day," Three Rivers coach Jeff Null said. Hendricks now has four home runs to lead the Lady Raiders, who have hit 11 as a team. She was 3 for 4 with two runs and four RBIs in the opener, and then went 1 for 3 with two RBIs in the nightcap. For the season, she's now batting .372 with 21 RBIs and 10 runs. Hendricks started the season 3 for 14 at the plate and didn't have a multihit game until the March 3 against John A. Logan, 12 games into the season. She's now gotten a hit in five straight games and is 8 for 14 with four runs and nine RBIs during that stretch, all of the Lady Raider wins. Three Rivers (9-12) has now six in a row with its next 12 games all against Region XVI opponents. "We are headed in the right direction," Null said. "We feel pretty good about where we're headed. The kids are doing things right and we are starting to see results."

Wiley Lowry (5-3) got the win in the opener. She pitched three innings and allowed five hits and a walk with four strikeouts. Kira Cunningham finished the game and allowed a hit and two walks with no strikeouts. The Lady Raiders plated 10 runs in the first inning. Randi Scruggs was 4 for 5 at the plate. Three Rivers' leadoff hitter is now batting average to .528, which is 16th in the nation. She also grabbed her 22nd stolen base, making her 25th in the nation in that category. Lexi Morris was 3 for 3 with four RBIs and three runs. MaKayla Lamphier also scored three times and Courtney Slayton had three RBIs and a triple. Three Rivers spaced out its scoring across the first three innings of the nightcap, getting at least four runs in each. Carleigh Burnett (3-6) and Maci Coleman combined for the shutout, with Burnett starting and getting the win. She allowed two hits and a walk with five strikeouts over three innings. Coleman was perfect over the final two and had three strikeouts. "That was the best they've thrown all year," Null said. "(They) were just dominant." The top three in the lineup — Scruggs, Morgan Ledure and Morris — were a combined 8 for 9 with nine runs and six RBIs. Each scored three times. Scruggs and Ledure were both 3 for 3, while Ledure and Morris each had three RBIs. All three also had a double. Lamphier, batting fifth, was 2 for 3 with a home run, two runs and three RBIs.
