In their fi rst doubleheader in a week, the Lady Raiders barely got in enough innings for one normal length game. Three Rivers College throttled Arkansas Baptist 15-0 and 15-0 in a pair of four-inning games Thursday at Rains Field. "You don't want to have too many of these games on your schedule. Kids have a way of making bad habits, making mistakes, and it carries over for a day or two afterward," Three Rivers coach Jeff Null said. "Lucky for us we don't play until Sunday." Maci Coleman (1-2) picked up her fi rst win of the season in the opener. She struck out 11 and gave up two hits in her third start of the season. Coleman struck out nine of the fi rst 10 batters she faced. Stray singles in the second and fourth innings separated Coleman from striking out every batter.
Carleigh Burnett got her second win of the year after pitching the fi rst three innings of the nightcap. She had seven strikeouts and one hit. Burnett struck out the fi rst four batters she faced and at least two in each inning. Kira Cunningham pitched the fourth inning in her fi rst pitching appearance of the year. Cunningham, who pitched in high school but has been playing second base for the Lady Raiders, got outs with her fi rst two pitches. She then allowed a hit and earned her fi rst strikeout with a changeup. In the opener, the Lady Raiders scored nine runs in the fi rst inning, Randi Scruggs and Morgan Ledure scored twice in the frame. Scruggs also had a three-run triple in her second at bat and Ledure followed with an RBI groundout. Scruggs scored four times in the game and fi nished with four stolen bases and three RBIs. Ledure scored three times and got three RBIs. Lexi Morris and MaKayla Lamphier added two hits and two runs each. Three Rivers spaced out its runs a little more in the nightcap with at least four runs in three different innings.
"When they did make mistakes we hit the ball hard," Null said. Logan Hayworth had a two-run homer in the first inning, her first of the season, and finished with two hits, two runs and three RBIs. Lamphier finished off the game with an RBI double. Morris scored three runs and went 2 for 2 with two walks and two RBIs. "I'm usually harder on them in games like this than in tough games because tough games you're ready to play. These games, it is real easy to lose focus," Null said. "We'll take it. We've played a brutal part of our schedule early in the season, so it is kind of nice to relax a little bit and work some people in at different spots."
