Three Rivers' defense caught up to its offense and the Lady Raiders put together their first win streak of the season. The Lady Raiders picked up their first sweep with a pair of home wins against Williams Baptist on Thursday. Wiley Lowry picked up a complete-game win in the opener as Three Rivers College won 10-2. Carleigh Burnett then picked up her first win of the season as the Lady Raiders won the nightcap 11-6. "The offense has been doing pretty well. The last six, seven games we've hit the ball really well," Three Rivers coach Jeff Null said. "We've continued hitting, and pitching has gotten better lately and therefore we've gotten a few wins." Lowry struck out six and gave up six hits with no walks and Lexi Morris capped the game with a walk-off grand slam that brought the run rule into effect after six innings. "She threw really well," Null said. "She finally started hitting spots and locating."
The Lady Raiders (5-12) pushed five runs across in the second inning to take the lead. In the bottom of the sixth, Kabrien Rogers, Randi Scruggs and Morgan Ledure singled to set the table for Morris, who drilled a shot to center field. "It really kind of came out of nowhere. We weren't thinking about ending the game," Null said. "That was nice to finish it off." The Lady Raiders scored four in the fourth and three in the fifth to go ahead 10-4. Courtney Slayton had a double in both frames for three RBIs and two runs. Morris, who hit in front of her in the order, drew a pair of walks and scored in both innings. Burnett pitched four innings and allowed seven hits and a walk with three strikeouts. Maci Coleman finished the game and allowed five hits and a hit batter with no strikeouts. Scruggs, who leads the Lady Raiders with .500 batting average, was 5 for 8 with four runs and two RBIs in the doubleheader. She also stole five bases to give her 18 for the season, which is tied for 24th in the nation. She has been caught stealing once. Morris reached base on 6 of 8 at bats. She drew three walks and scored three runs.
