Kayla Sparkman lives in Fisk, Missouri with her husband, Tyler Sparkman. Together, they have two dogs, Charlie and Chewie. Kayla has been a 5th grade Special Education teacher at Central Elementary, in Dexter, Missouri for the past four years. She also has coached cheerleading at Dexter High School for four years.
At a young age, Kayla was introduced into the world of gymnastics and cheerleading. She was a competitive gymnast until she began cheerleading at the age of 12. She cheered at Twin Rivers High School before finishing up her cheerleading career at the University of Missouri- Kansas City. At UMKC, Kayla cheered for two years before transferring to SEMO, in 2011, to concentrate on her education.
Kayla has coached competitive gymnastics and tumbling for the past 9 years. She previously has coached at Missouri Elite Gymnastics Academy in Raymore, Missouri, Heartland Gymnastics, in Cape Girardeau, Missouri, and Xtreme Gymnastics, in Poplar Bluff, Missouri.
Kayla graduated from Southeast Missouri State in 2013. She has a degree in the Mild/Moderate Cross-Categorical Special Education, with a minor in Psychology and Communication Disorders. Kayla is currently obtaining her Master’s in the Exceptional Child with an emphasis in Autism from SEMO.
Kayla's favorite thing about cheerleading is that there is always room to grow. Even when once a skill is accomplished, there is always something new and more challenging to perfect. The sport that is called cheerleading, today, is not the same sport that it was in previous years. Cheerleading continues to grow and evolve into a more challenging composition.
