LITTLE ROCK, Ark. — The Lady Raider bench runs deep. Eleven players scored for Three Rivers as it extended its winning streak to four games with an 88-74 win against Arkansas Baptist College on Monday. Three Rivers (6-2) got 45 points off the bench while Arkansas Baptist had six. Five Three Rivers reserves got at least 14 minutes of playing time and everyone had at least 5. The Lady Buffaloes, meanwhile, had one bench player play more than 14 minutes. "I've never had any teams that could do that," Three Rivers coach Jeff Walk said of his bench scoring. "This is a special group in that regard." Alex Kohler and Camdyn McDaniel both had 12 points off the bench for the Lady Raiders. Ge'Naisha Robinson, who started, led Three Rivers with 13. Joya Smith, also a starter, made it four Lady Raiders in double figures with 10 points.
Three Rivers has started the same five in each game. Through eight games, the bench is averaging around 42 points a game, or 54.5 percent of the team's total scoring. At 10.8 points per game, McDaniel leads the bench in scoring. The sophomore guard started 13 games as a freshman, including eight of the final nine, and has come off the bench since missing the first two games of the season with a concussion.
With three bench buckets, Arkansas Baptist's starters played heavy minutes and lost the fourth quarter by seven points after winning the third by nine. The Lady Buffaloes (0- 8) made three field goals in the first 8 ½ minutes of the fourth quarter. They also made one field goal in the final 6 minutes of the second quarter. In those two stretches, Three Rivers outscored Arkansas Baptist 33-17. After missing their first four shots and falling behind 6-1, the Lady Raiders went on an 18-1 run and led by at least seven until Arkansas Baptist made one last run early in the fourth quarter. "Arkansas Baptist is the most athletic team that we've played and they played good competition. We were back on our heels just a little bit and at the 2 minute mark, a light bulb came on with all the kids," Walk said. The Lady Buffaloes, down seven points with 10 minutes to play, capitalized on three Three Rivers turnovers with four free throws and a 3 by Essence Johnson that cut the lead to one possession. Three Rivers, though, held Arkansas Baptist scoreless over the next 3 minutes and rebuilt a 10-point lead. "We weathered that storm, answered back with a couple 3s and three, four defensive stops," Walk said. While Three Rivers had the advantage of a deep bench, it did not win the boards. Arkansas Baptist was plus-six on rebounds and plus-seven on secondchance points. "It's hard to win every single stat category against a good basketball team," Walk said, adding that forward Jalisa Smith did not play due to injury. "We got in a little bit of foul trouble down there. When you get your post players with three fouls, you have to be selective as to when you are going after the ball." Arkansas Baptist took 16 extra shots, but shot 32 percent from the field to Three Rivers' 47 percent. Markeia Porter led Three Rivers with nine rebounds over 16 minutes off the bench and added six points and four assists, as well. Joya Smith had seven rebounds and three steals to go with her 10 points. The Lady
Raiders' next two games are against Lindenwood-Belleville JV and Missouri Baptist JV, whom they respectively beat by 60 and 78 points in their most recent meeting. Then the Lady Raiders have a home rematch against Arkansas Baptist. If they win all three games, they'd be taking a seven-game winning streak into a matchup against No. 21 ranked Vincennes on Dec. 6 at the Bess Activity Center, a day before the NJCAA releases its next poll. "It's going to be a home game," Walk said. "There's a lot of water that has to go under the bridge between now and then. We don't look that far ahead, but we know that's coming."
