NEOSHO, Mo. — In their final game of the regular season, the Lady Raiders rebounded from last week's disappointing loss for a come-from-behind win. Three Rivers College beat Crowder College 82-71, and in doing so locked up the No. 1 seed in the Region XVI Tournament. "It is a great feeling. The kids deserve this," Three Rivers coach Jeff Walk said. "We knew we had our backs against the wall … totally opposite of how we played last Saturday." Michael Everhart sank four 3s, three of them in the second half, and finished with 18 points to lead the Lady Raiders. Ge'Naisha Robinson added 13 Joya Smith had 12 and Olivia Crane got 10.
Down 13 midway through the third quarter, Three Rivers (22-7, 8-2 Region XVI) switched defenses and started to find success. It took the lead early in the fourth quarter and soon after was up double digits. "I think the press just finally wore them down. We got a couple quick turnovers, easy baskets, a couple quick 3s," Walk said. "I was proud of them the way we came back today." The Lady Raiders went 8 for 9 at the foul line in the fourth quarter and 27 for 30 overall to set season highs in free throws made, attempted, and percentage for a game. The Lady Raiders were shooting 57.4 percent at the line going into Saturday's game and were coming off a 9 for 23 performance last weekend in a 20-point loss to Mineral Area.
In that game, guard De'Nayia Holmes went down with a knee injury and Walk feared she was lost for the season. It ended up being just a bruised knee. She played about 25 minutes against Crowder (10-20, 6-4 Region XVI) and finished with points. "After thinking she was lost for the season, she played a big ball game and made some good plays for us," Walk said. "We just dodged a bullet. That's all that was." Crowder was led by 21 points from Kadesha Cooper. Morgan Crawford got 16, Broke Sagely had 13 and Nicole Ickes had 10. Three Rivers will play the winner of Mineral Area vs. Moberly Area in the region semifinals at 1 p.m., Friday at the Jason Gym in Jefferson City.
