Lady Raiders roll past Rend Lake

The Three Rivers women's basketball team turned defense into points Saturday afternoon.

The Raiders scored 21 points off turnovers as seven different players had at least one steal in a 102-55 win over Rend Lake (Ill.) at the Libla Family Sports Complex.

"Our defense definitely leads to our offense," Raiders coach Alex Wiggs said. "It helps whenever you get stops, whenever you play well on the defensive end.

"Definitely makes the offense go smoother."

The sixth-ranked Raiders (6-0) reached 100 points for the third time and held a third opponent to under 60 points.

Jenna McMillen scored a game-high 26 points, Myia Yelder added 16 points and Autumn Dodd scored 12 for Three Rivers.

Joi Montgomery had four steals, four assists, six rebounds and eight points while Dodd and McMillen each had three steals.

Rend Lake (3-2), which lost to Moberly Area 84-75 Friday night, shot 25% from the field, including 7 of 43 on 3-pointers.

Three Rivers sank 40% of its 3-pointers led by McMillen's 6 of 11 shooting performance. Yelder knocked down 3 of 4 from long range while Mariah Smith had a pair and scored eight.

Abby Turner led with seven rebounds while Kourtney Kendrick, McMillen and Montgomery each had six.

The Raiders reserves outscored Rend Lake 59-55 with McMillen, Kendrick (9 points), Smith (8), Jamiyah Thomas (7), Turner (5), Grace Jerome (2) and Ahniya Melton (2).

"We played better all around today," Wiggs said.

Yelder's 3-pointer started an 11-0 run as Three Rivers surged into the lead for good midway through the first quarter.

The Raiders led 25-16 heading into the second and scored 12 straight to lead 46-25. McMillen's 3 at the buzzer put Three Rivers up 51-28 at the half.

After outscoring Rend Lake 30-12 in the third quarter, the Raiders led 81-40 and were up by as much as 50 with 5:14 remaining.

The Raiders host Lincoln Trail (Ill.) at 5 p..m Tuesday.
