Raiders baseball splits pair in Tennessee

MILLINGTON, Tenn. — The Three Rivers College baseball team split a pair of games against Iowa teams at the Flag City Classic on Sunday, defeating the Indian Hills Warriors 5-4 but falling to the North Iowa Area Community College Trojans 6-5 in nine innings. Both games were played at USA Stadium.

In the opener, the Raiders (3-1) drove in the go-ahead run in the bottom of the sixth inning on a Grant Dotson fielder's choice to snap a 4-4 tie and pull out the win.

Caden Crask-Weeks tossed 2 1/3 innings of scoreless relief to earn the win in relief of starter Colton Sims, who allowed no earned runs (two unearned) in three innings of work on the hill.

Grant Fitch homered and drove in two runs in the game, while Dotson, Manny Alberto and Trey Benthal each doubled.

In the second game, Three Rivers took a 4-1 lead in the top of the fifth inning, only to see the Trojans rally for four runs in the bottom of the sixth to move ahead.

TRC answered right back with a run in the top of the seventh inning to tie the score at 5-5 and force extra innings. However, NIACC scored in the bottom of the ninth inning to earn the win.

Caleb Smith and J.C. Poole each had two hits for the Raiders, while Smith added a homer and drove in three runs. Dotson also doubled, while Alberto tripled.

Tyler Vincent took the loss in relief of starter Dorian Lippens, who allowed three hits and one run in four innings on the mound.
