Lady Raiders split 2 games in Texas

ATHENS, Texas — Kierra Sanderlin's basket with four seconds remaining lifted the Trinity Valley Lady Cardinals women's college basketball team to a 60-58 win over the Three Rivers College Lady Raiders on the final day of the Budke/Serna Classic on Saturday evening.

The fourth-ranked Lady Raiders led No. 18 Trinity Valley 50-42 at the start of the fourth quarter, but could not hold off a rally by the host Lady Cardinals.

Three Rivers led 28-27 at the intermission, then outscored the hosts 22-15 in the third to take an eight-point lead to the final period.

Kaleigh "KT" Thompson led the Lady Raiders (8-2) with 13 points, while Brittani Wells added 11 and the duo of Lexi Weaver and Samari Taylor each had eight. Kamille Brown added seven rebounds and four steals, while Jasmine Davis also had four steals.

Three Rivers opened the Budke/Serna Classic on Friday night with a 69-52 win over the Lady Dragons of Paris Junior College.

Paris led 13-11 after the opening period, but the Lady Raiders dominated the second quarter to take a 38-24 lead to the locker room. TRC led 56-37 by the beginning of the fourth quarter.

Thompson led Three Rivers with 19 points and 12 rebounds, while Bramyia Johnson added nine points and Laylah Reese finished with eight points. Wells and Davis each added five assists, while Davis and Brown had two steals apiece and the duo of Davis and Taylor each blocked a pair of shots.

The Lady Raiders are back in action Wednesday when they head to western Indiana to take on Vincennes.
